Is Autodesk a good company to work for compared to a Google, Facebook or Uber? Hear it's got good work life balance
there is a popular term around here. "boomerang" a lot of people leave (to promote themselves) and then come back for the lifestyle.
I can't talk about work experience directly but what I can say from my personal experience is the pay package (based on the job offer I got) is quite a bit lower as compared to Google, Apple and Amazon (haven't got offer from FB anytime, so can't speak firsthand but of course FB pays extremely well). Plus what I heard from a couple of folks in my team who worked at Autodesk is their RSU refreshes are low, though this is what I heard and I have never worked at Autodesk. Based on my colleague's feedback, the work load at Apple, Google, etc is more than Autodesk.
engineering is slow. be prepared for lots of bureaucracy to do simplest changes or work. with a lot of the old timers being around in same positions, there is a lot of toxic politics you won't be able to avoid. current climate is too process/policy heavy. otherwise, everyone not in a management or decision making role is pretty chill. WFH is super flexible but that's dying out. too many reorgs, and more coming down the line.
Speaking for design it's also very slow. I imagine for PM a lot of your time is going to be spent fighting for very small stuff (recently have spent weeks over moving a single line of text) and meeting with a lot of stakeholders. Pay is low relative to google/fb/uber. To echo above tho the work life balance is insane and people are very supportive of families. Lot of kid friendly events they put on too. If you need to leave at 4 to pick up your kid at daycare, it's totally cool. But I find growth is super slow here and a lot of the work can be monotonous.
Work life balance is very good and people are very laid back and most of them have been at the company for many years, San Rafael is also a beautiful place to live and work. But I’m talking about only San Rafael and San Francisco offices, outside of this I guess it’s pretty shitty and aholes everywhere (esp ppl in Calgary, Potsdam, etc). Pay is not as great as FB or Amazon or Google.
They are definitely very understanding of family values. Don't have all the small perks of other tech companies.
Thanks! Ya those small benefits seem nice only for a while.
Depends on the position obviously. But I have the freedom to work from home. Which allows me to work on my own schedule. however there are those that work with offices over seas and have to work crazy hours
