I am currently an undergrad in India, and I am currently interviewing for the new grad roles. I recently applied to a unicorn (based in Menlo Park), and got a phone interview. However, I am not sure if it is even possible for me to directly get an offer on there.. Can someone please provide some insights.. Thank you so much!
Possible, if you are exceptional. It's not a common scenario.
Oh, got it..
If you are in IIT London is parking spot till H1B comes
Yeah, i guess thats probably right..
IIT campus placement is key, else recruiter will direct you to India offices
I know people who came directly on h1b
Oh, thats great!
Marry someone from Pakistan or Sri Lanka, get a job offer contingent on permanent residence approval and ask company to file i140. join in a year with green card.
Green card i one year? Are you kidding me.. i need to look this up, lol
If u're born in India it's bad luck, if ur spouse is born in India it's stupidity
Lol, sorry, but i guess i lost the context.. i am applying for new grad roles, and not married
So whether you get green card depends on country of birth. If you are born in India, current wait times is 70-150 years (give or take 70 years 😂). In other words, you will die and your kids will die before you become eligible 🤷🏽♂️ Also called a denial based on country of birth.
Most companies should have asked you about your employment authorization when you filled out the application. If they know you need a visa but they're still interviewing you, it means they have a plan. It is difficult to get an H-1B visa due to the lottery and most companies will not just put your job offer on hold for years while waiting for you to win the lottery. If that were the only option then they would not even bother interviewing you. Most likely they will park you in an office in another country like Canada, UK, or Ireland and give you the option of applying for an L-1 visa after 1 year.
Can you please tell which IIT (like old or new or super new) are you from and are you in a CS/non-CS branch? Thanks!
Sure.. i am studying CS in an old IIT.. you can DM me if you want more info...
@əๅɓoo⅁. That's cool, nothing more! Actually I am preparing for JEE this year and so was just checking how much does college and branch matter. Now I really hope that I do get in the best possible I can. Thanks! (Also I use Blind on my laptop and not on phone, so I am not able to DM anyway 😅)
Its very possible if you are from top canadian universities especially uWaterloo. Like most of the graduating class go to the US or smh
Keep in mind that a lot of Waterloo students are Canadian citizens so they will be eligible for TN status. For others, it could be harder.
Nah, most of them are going for H1B since they are looking to get GC. TN won't go towards GC
You need them to sponsor your h1 b visa! H1 b Visa sponsorship can take as good as 6-7 months and it won’t start until April of each yr. people have two ways to come work in US - Either come directly onsite via a job opportunity from a company that has its base in India and US or simply come to US to study.
Yeah, i was kinda expecting that..
I sort of had my hopes up, thinking that they may have it figured out, given that they are interviewing me
