Everyone I know personally from Amazon or had worked at Amazon seems/seem d miserable but someone I know from AWS seems happy. Is there difference? Is AWS more prestigious than Amazon? I got opportunity to interview with AWS so I wonder if there’s a difference!
Yes, but both culture sucks.. :P
I have worked for two teams in Retail and have been in AWS with another team for a few years. Each team was/is great, but I know crappy teams were in close proximity. It all boils down to the manager.
It’s all team dependent. Even in the same org teams are completely different
I have been with a few teams in AWS and Amazon (not at the same time) for over 5 years. It is strongly dependent on your leadership team. I have had very good and very bad experiences.
Everyone I personally know who has worked at amazon (10-15 people) say the work life balance sucks ( Seattle & Boston areas )
There are fundamental differences in the kinds of work you’ll do in retail vs AWS, so with that comes differences in culture. But, there’s no official differences that I’m aware of
There’s a bit less chaos in AWS since it’s structured more like a subsidiary than just another department/team. I’ve heard from recruiters they also have more total budget for compensation
Every team (aws or amzn) can have a different culture. If the manager and the LPs are strong of the amazonians on the team, the team dynamics will be sound and the team will have great culture.
By and large people from the retail side are trying to internally transfer to AWS. AWS is viewed as younger, sexier and an all around better working environment. Many transfers tell me they like AWS way better for the culture, environment and WLB.
I’ve worked in both, AWS is much better for the reasons you mentioned.
How does AWS compare to catalog systems team?
