I’ve failed to secure interviews at FAANG or any growing startup. Where am I going wrong?

Non tech.

All this while I thought I’d at least be able to secure a few offers but I’ve literally never even received a call, even when I got myself referred through friends OR reached out to folks via LinkedIn OR apply through online job portals. Where am I going wrong?
Is it the resume / my approach / positions I’m aiming?

Disheartened and demotivated.

Hard to say without seeing your resume. I’d recommend printing and reading it out loud to make sure you don’t have typeos. It also depends on what kind of jobs you’re applying for - if you’re going for a level above your current one, it’s hard to get call backs.

What would you say are the top 5 most common mistakes while applying for a job?

Companies are dumb and generally don’t hire based on skills in nontech. They hire on what you’ve done before and years of experience. It takes a good hiring manager to realize that someone can go up a level.

True, agree with you completely. I don’t have an MBA, I feel that could be a factor as well.

What types of jobs are you looking for? You can also PM me. I help friends and family with job stuff all the time. Generally, biggest resume mistakes:

      1. Not putting metrics in your resume. Let’s say you’re a finance person. You would say “identified cost savings of $500K and implemented in 2 months across 3 departments” (obviously more specific, but an example to start with). Another example would be “owned 12 clients relationship with a 100% satisfaction score resulting in 100% renewals”
      2. Not clarifying tense within job descriptions. People are anal out here and notice this...
      3. If you have more than a year of work experience (which you do), do not lead with your education details first. Lead with your work experience and take off any irrelevant parts and beefen up what’s most recent

I think I check off both the points - as in got both covered in my resume. Spending today to review it thoroughly, will read it out loud as well. Hey, thanks again for all your help here. Truly appreciate it.

Impossible to know, but it’s probably the resume. If you’ve got an attractive resume, even if you’ve applied for the wrong position - you’ll be passed off to someone else.

Find someone you can trust in your current org or ask your friends to connect you with someone to give you feedback.
