So a couple weeks ago I was laid off (along with others) from my job. I was a Solutions Architect and I had been there for five years. I'm not necessarily upset but more put off because I have been asked to not speak about them to anyone and they gave me less than a weeks notice. However when I look for another job do I tell these tech companies that I was laid off or that I still work there? If I tell them that I was laid off they will ask why and I'm not sure if I should tell them why. Also I am actively looking so what is the best way to tell a company that I don't need a two week notice?
Just tell that there was a lay-off, it’s a legitimate reason and potential employers will be happy that you’re available immediately. Just keep your head high and don’t feel desperate. Tell “Unfortunately, my former employer was going through tough times, and my job was eliminated along with many others. I’m thankful that they provided me with a good exit package, and I am currently evaluating a number of opportunities”.
^ been there done that.
An average American is laid off at least 3 times through the career, nothing is wrong with that
I got laid off after only 3 months at a company and was honest about it but made a point that it wasn't performance-related and offered to put them in though with my old manager. People understood, layoffs are just part of the game. I do remember what a terrible experience it was though. This too shall pass. I'll be rooting for you!
I don't think being able to put them on with my old manager would help much because he was also let go before me. But thank you so much for your help. I was a little ashamed lol.
you can be truthful about your current situation. nothing to be ashamed of about layoff. that's very diff from termination with cause or PIP due to perf. in general, your interview perf is what matters most.
Thank you! I will keep this in mind!
