A friend will be coming in as a SWE with little over 2 yoe. Recruiter refused to schedule Senior SWE loop for him saying he didn't have enough exp. He is interested in the median time for industry hire SWEs to get promoted. Assuming Meets Expectations or higher.
senior often in 1.5 years at linkedin usa.
1 year Sr Swe.
Hi euler Do you know if LinkedIn Bangalore is currently hiring? I've 1.5 yoe but all the roles in careers site are for senior swe
They’re much stricter with leveling when hiring externally than promoting internally. That’s why you see Sr SWE at LinkedIn with 2 yoe. According to a recruiter I worked it’s rare for them to hire staff engineers and above, even tho staff maps to L5 elsewhere. They usually hire in at Sr and then promote to staff relatively quickly.
Makes sense
True, I know someone who was Senior at Amazon but LinkedIn refused to bring him in as Staff
Lol. Everyone is a senior! Yay title inflation! Does he want a trophy every quarter acknowledging his wondrous impact?
Depends on the team. For a new grad : Tools team - 1yr Product team - 2yrs Data team - 3 yrs For a 2yrs yoe: Tools: Less than a year if you werent given senior already Product: 1-2 yrs Data - atleast 2 yrs unless you are exceptional
Seen people with 5-6 years of experience from good product MNC still with SE title. Acc to levels.fyi, SSE @linkedin is comparable to SDE2 or L61 msft. Idk why LinkedIn India has hyped SSE title that they dont consider people <5YOE for SSE
2yoe and you wanna be Senior. Talk about being greedy/stupid. SWEs get promoted based on various factors. And obviously median increases based on how high the role is. Should be anywhere between 3-6 years for going from SE 2 -> Senior.
Obviously you don't Know that LI doesn't have SWE2. For them it goes SWE->SSWE->Staff
Wanna be senior swe in 2 years fkin lmao
