Just wanted to let you guys know what happened in my case. I had the initial phone screen, was asked a question and solvef it quickly using Ruby. The interviewer has only known Java but he was surprised how much less code my solution involved. Everything was ok and we finished the call. Later the recruiter called me and mentioned to me that we cannot proceed because the interviewer was supposed to ask me two questions yet he only asked me one. Wtf, if he wanted to ask, why didn't he? No one stopped him. There was never any mention of the second question in the phone screen. What an idiotic recruitment process lool. Fuck the recruiter.
May be you failed the first q. Did you ask if it is ok to use Ruby? Not only tech skillz, but proper communication is expected.
Oh yeah he was completely ok with it
Could be worst. Could have the recruiter give you a tacit agreement of being hired. Just need to meet one more person who is your manager. They like you too. You’re in between leases and job opportunities between coasts. Decide to take their word for it and all of the sudden there is no job req. that is a shitty recruiter and it wasted much more of your time and money
Apparent I had kind of similar experience with LinkedIn onsite ... where interviewer came from javascript background and I wrote code in java ... he failed me saying lot of things not take care ...which I did suppose took care of ..
I had a really bad experience with LinkedIn. The was an interviewer and his shadow. Both were < 2 yrs in experience. They asked me 2 questions. I told the approach of both questions and was immediately asked to code. Everything went well. Then I get a call saying my coding is good but I didn't came up with optimal solution. I was stunned.
We keep seeing kids like this from time to time doing interviews. I met so many like this at different companies
Blacklist LinkedIn 😀
Who the hell uses ruby? Why not using pseudo code then? Ruby hides all of the internal allocations that dramatically change complexity. Grow up, this is not python monkey contest.
Are you kidding me? Ruby is quite popular and what do you mean by hiding internal allocations? Every language does that. Don't tell me you're just another java guy
Omg. Just do your interviews in c++ and you’ll be fine. Avoid using managed languages as they add unnecessary complexity everywhere.
LinkedIn interview process is a joke. I also had a very bad experience with them during my onsite. One of the interviewers came to the wrong campus. After sitting in the room waiting for half an hour and kept pinging recruiter, another guy took me to lunch since it’s close to lunch time. He’s sure that I had an hour for lunch. But when we came back, there was the next interviewer waiting in front of the room and I was told I was 15min late. Hence I had only 30min for his interview round. After finishing the onsite, the recruiter went ghosted. I received a thank-you email generated from email template after sending multiple emails to the recruiter.
What assholes..
Same. Their interviewers lack experience when it comes to interviewing.
Just curious, did you finish the call early? Since Ruby solution was way shorter, did you guys spent the rest of Interview time on discussion?
He discussed things with me with no mention of anything else
TC or GTFO w/ your butthurt ass
