I am in a Supply Chain/Operations/Procurement (Non-Tech) role. I enjoy my work. TC is these roles is significantly lower and few roles so difficult to switch. Current TC 210k. I am a single earning member (wife & 1 kid). its just average, can only afford a simple middle class lifestyle. Cant even afford to buy a decent house in a good school district. What options do I have.
Move to Austin or Portland
Nashville
I was just thinking Nashville, I grew up there, and it has changed so much in 20 years, and is booming for non-tech.
20 years ago, did you think you would be making 210k and still not be happy about it?
What do you do in supply chain?
Not everyone has to be swe. Also most swe don't make blind TC. Most swe in Bay area make similar to u. It's not a bad salary. Sure it's not enough to buy a house in good school district. But it's enough to save up enough to retire one day.
Once your wife gets a job you’ll be fine. It’s temporary.
What is wrong with renting forever? That’s how many Europeans live.
I like the feeling of owning a home, putting things to my taste, not having to move around, its just a personal thing. I also feel its a good long term investment
lol Europeans don’t rent. They are all desperate to climb the property ladder or save up enough to pay the family estate taxes.
Move up to senior levels eventually executive management? What is your plan?
I want to get to a Director level, but its a loong road
Can always check the consulting path too
Save up enough, encourage your wife to become an earning member and re-evaluate. If you still can’t get your kid to a good school, move to a city with better public schooling system. I’d have suggested Austin, but the summers are terrible. May be Portland? But I don’t know how good their schools are.

I tried to get into Software, the thing is I am not really good at it. I may be able to clear the interview and get a job, but I will not be the top 50% in my team and constantly struggle, its not worth it
Only other option: life savings in bitcoin, pray for a miracle
