Mexican tariffs destroyed chances of a deal with China
China believes Trump cannot be trusted to keep his word and that negotiating a deal with him is pointless as he will simply reneg on it as he has done with Mexico, right after negotiating USMCA. They are right, so we are headed for a recession.
It will be tougher for China, they can still standup at cost of losing global business. But trump is stupid US need neighbors to be friends to deal with monster like China !

Trump is keeping his word that Mexico will pay for the wall. Mexico thinks they can flood our southern border and US wealth will flow south. Guess again...
That's not how tarriffs work. Americans pay the tarriffs, not Mexicans, so no.
Maybe. If companies in Mexico raise prices, but tariffs are going to increase as long as AMLO continues implementing their policy of flooding the southern border in order to overwhelm the system and create a border economy that will send American wealth south ASAP. Might be better for multi-national companies to just move their factories north into the US and Canada. This is a major power play. Mexico has few options for retaliation.

Not far from the truth. It's not a coincidence that he made this announcement right after Mueller gave a press conference to say the report does not exonerate him.
This is all about atmospherics for election politics. Trump needs to seen as being a hard hitting negotiator that is MAGA. The NAFTA 2.0 was just the same old trade deal with a tiny improvement and was sold as an amazing new trade deal. It’s about the impression and not results. Remember Trump told Mexico that it doesn’t matter who pays for the wall, just don’t say “Mexico won’t pay for it”. This is all sales 101. All sizzle and no steak. Create a problem. Keep it going. Act like the big shot strong man savior that will fix it. And the media falls for it every time. Ratings works.

Nah. It won’t get there. Trump is in control of this whole thing. He passing out socialism like candy to the farmers who are impacted by this. If the markets tank enough, Trump will cave and pull out a compromise token and announce a deal, even if the only thing we have is exactly the same trade deal we have today. But Trump will call it the best deal in the history of deals and he beat China. And his dummy base will eat it all up.
Doesn’t matter what China believes. They don’t have any option. Everyone knows this is posturing for election. Thing is, can everyone wait till nov 2020.
They have an option of not negotiating. Where do you get the idea they have no option?
They can wait for trump to be thrown to the wolves. Or better yet use the back doors trump has left open for the Russians to hack the next election to hack it for a pro China president. And that won’t be trump.
