This year they shut down all green card programs for an unknown time. heard it’s not the first time. No one publishes this kind of news before, so more and more innocent people become victims.

Hope nobody is lured into its trap anymore. Avoid this shitty company.

The team still keeps pushing back request and keeps delaying the process despite groups of angry employees voice up their concern in the company social media platform and despite they host town halls. Lost all faith on them. Their made fake promises before accepting the offer, afterwards they are as shit as you can imagine.

  • Thanks for sharing. I thought Microsoft has pretty good green card police before I saw this post...

I have the same thought too in the past. Until I find out their immigration team is so irresponsible, has no transparency. They ceased perm in the past as well now and then, people were affected by that ill policy, just nobody stood out and let the world know what Microsoft’s true policy is. I wish in the future, less people become victim, walk away from these hidden traps

H1b is a temp working visa. GC is a bonus companies offer voluntarily.
Not sure what’s frustration, unless it was a part of the offer.

That’s because all other companies except Microsoft all offer this bonus
      Apr 22

That happens usually due to layoffs (the law mandates such behavior). But don’t worry - MSFT has Vancouver office just in case your visa expires so you can get back on track after some time

This is not MSFT fault. This is how USA works. Layoffs are MSFT fault. Consequences are imposed by higher authority and it is a privilege (in every country) that you can stay/work here. Also I don’t really get how on earth your family can stay while you have to leave

Explain more please. Your direct family is likely tied to you. Your parents/brothers/sisters are obviously not tied to you. But still don’t get the drama you try to build here. I am outraged that Indians have to wait for eternity to get GC, yet nobody blames MSFT for this. I see you are upset, but basic logic says it’s immigration policy and not MSFT fault

Because you are not an immigrant or less so. Ask whoever is on the same boat, they will say the same as me. I just expressed the common message on behalf of everyone else. Microsoft immigration sucks, piece of shit.

How did you make that assumption. I am an immigrant and did my due in line for GC. You knew where you were coming. This country has strict system of filters. This is the way it was when you came. And it became stricter.

Why don’t all of u try EB2 NIW option ?? It’s self petition that way u don’t rely on any company in the future . It does not have PERM process too
    Apr 22 6
    • Lam Research rektkid
I did it. It cost me 4K .. but I control the whole process and it’s much smoother without dealing with HR and company attorneys who work for company and not you !!! 4-5 K is not a big deal . Heck guys make over 250K here and can’t afford this ??

@rektkid - I m hearing first time about EB2 NIW option. Sorry for asking you to do more work, but if you can do a blog post about the process and application journey, I m sure your efforts will be appreciated.

Plan to read on it. Thanks for the tip

Under Satya MSFT is continuously having small small layoffs throughout the company. Those layoffs Impact GC applications for that ORG. Since these layoffs are small in number they are not reported, and people don't know about those.

That is not true. I worked for 6+ yrs for a small consulting company, the got kicked out. You have a false sense of entitlement for an immigration benefit that may or may not be granted to you.

They did this back in 2009 too. Screwed a bunch of people over as that delay added decades to their wait
    Apr 22 6
    • Uber Fritter
Financial crisis, all perms were being audited. Had they not frozen, would be citizen by now but instead I'm still waiting for priority date to be current with no line of sight.
      Apr 22
    • Cisco / Product U there
      How long was the delay?

It has been 11 years now.... so you are saying you could have gotten green card back in 2013ish if there was no delay?
      Apr 22
    • Uber Fritter
This is very India specific so does not apply to others. MS froze GC applications from 2008 late to 2010 late. Eb2 India pri dates have not gone beyond 2009 for almost 7 years. So if you joined in 2008, your GC app would have been filed by 2011.
      Apr 22
    • Uber Fritter
So if they hadn't frozen, pri date would be 2008/9, which became current first in 2012. Add five years plus processing times you could be citizen by 2018.

Yep. They added the term, first in first out. Only if your work authorization is truly in danger, they will take some actions. Even that I’ve heard some people joined for 2.5 years without green card or 140 progressed. Case was held for over a year and when it’s about time to proceed they haunted the entire gc program. Then his opt is about to expire....

What we do not know is the length of temporary pause. So overall having a pause is a terrible idea.

If it’s not too long for your pd to become current, I suggest you wait in your employer till start 485. After all, if you move within same job family, you can submit 485 supplement J. Vs. now you join msft and have to restart the 140 process
      Apr 22
    • Cerner / Eng Zenobia
Am not sure when my pd will become current. Am from India so it might take forever lol. Also I have already changed the employer .i.e. am not with the one who filed my GC. So I guess it shouldn’t matter. I will have to check with some attorney on if every employer I work with has to file it.

I don’t want my current company to file it since I plan to get into a FAANG next year.

You have to get a new 140 with Microsoft though, then apply for 485 when your pd is current. Since you are already on boarded. Guess you have to suffer it .... sorry, bro

Isn’t the case here just to file another 140? Does that have to tie(wait) with layoffs?

Either way, 485 can be a long time for some of us

Thanks , I will follow up with my manager and immigration. I did not know that i140 needs to be refiled

I’d say don’t rely on the townhall too much. It’s just a public gesture of immigration team to respond the employees’ anger, so things don’t go out broken. Heard people have get in touch with the senior leadership team of the immigration team, all the answers we hoped for has gotten denied.

Trying to understand how Microsoft and LinkedIn are related in this issue.
I am considering an offer from LinkedIn. Is this restricted to Microsoft or might affect LinkedIn employees too?

Got stuck in this boat with a previous employer back in 2011. It sucks to see the time lost in this nonsense.

Because of the ill policy , I believe many employees’ quality of life are impacted, is there a way to ask company to make up for that? Such as taking paid leave to regain strength or ask for financial makeup, lol
