Moving to OCI from azure core team

Has been 63 since last year and considering opportunities in OCI. What target level and package range I can expect? What’s pro and con?

Current team in Azure:
- under paid
- heavy on call duty
- frustration in development with multiple layers dependencies.

OCI
- new infrastructure new experience
- big feature gap indicating a lot of new dev opportunities
- decent pay?
- low on call tickets volume

Also considering AWS and GCP. But OCI seems easier to get in.

What do you think?

GCP took Tom Kurian who was let go from OCI. Many people said he is at pinnacle in hiring his own people and screwed opportunities Oracle had. Google took him and it looks like he is ready to fill GCP with his own people again. That is not a bad news for OCI. It is bad news for GCP. True diversity will be dead in high level management at GCP.

It’s one thing to disagree with Kurian's strategy. It's another to say he was let go from OCI. The guy ran all of engineering before he left. Oci is at best 30% of that... With piddly amount of revenue.
The guys at Google are surely fools for not heeding your advise

Stay away from Oracle. Their cloud is a absolutely terrible. If you don't believe me, go try it out. Seriously, go spin up an instance and try to build some project. You will walk away crying.

Does it really matter if your tc is 400k?

^Exactly. Move for this reason. Not because you think there’s a future for Oracle Cloud.

It matters if half of that 400k is oracle stock and it goes to shit while other people’s stock doubles.

Saleaforce, you can say that about pretty much any company stock.. the fact the stock doubles is not because you made a wise decision knowing about the products, but because one gets lucky. No one can truly know which way a stock moves

OCI can give you level IC4 with TC between 300-400k. Source: I recently interviewed with them and got this offer

Also why just 3 companies. Why not trying Facebook etc?

Also, OCI is easier is wrong assumption. For me OCI was more complicated then Facebook

Oracle had a lot of cruft that was cleaned up. You know those old routers that you wonder what they do. Know one knows. Imagine those are teams of people who are trying to look busy. That’s what they got rid of. Also got rid of some empire builders.

Network engineers are very safe at OCI.

I thought they took out engineers from the networking team as well. What kind of pattern do you see here in the trimming?

Network engineers are safe. You should know some of them. Ask them.

Oracle as a company will not go places as long as Larry is heading it. Oracle is still stuck in the early 2000s, try google. Hiring process is bullshit, took over 6 months, constant hiring freezes that have resulted in loss of talent that got sick of waiting and took offers somewhere else.
