I've been working on leetcode/problem solving skills. In some of the interviews, even when I was pretty sure my solutions were very optimal; I managed to end up with unfortunate results. I really don't want to talk about luck/fortune. I was just able to get MS. Got rejects from - Twitter, google, uber etc. :(

So Googlers/FAANG employees, please post your comments on - how to not just crack but crush interviews at FAANG companies. I know there's no medication or anything but still; even if its an hard way, kindly post your thoughts.

Yup. I am mostly in medium, coulle hards and easy. But many i know have gotten a decent 200 questions in before even applying for phone interviews. Not saying that 70 is not enough. But i guess the more the better.

I have interviews coming up and reading stuff like this is pretty scary... optimal solutions and rejections all around?

Did you also talk through your thought process and weigh different solutions before proceeding?

I did. I clearly remember for vmware, I did all the good stuff you are mentioning and didn't end up with the offer.

For MS my interview was pretty average and they extended the offer.

Weird, not sure what more you couldve done then. Optimal solutions, talking out loud, weighing tradeoffs seem like the ideal interview. Did you have time left over at the end for any of the interviews? Wondering if they wanted to do two questions but you only got to one or something.

I hate that you get no feedback from companies for rejections, makes you wonder what went wrong...

Were you not able to come up with optimal solution at any of these places? Because at least Google doesn't give a damn about prior work or behavioral stories

Are you sure your solutions were best in terms of time and space complexity? They might have expected better solutions which they had in the mind.

  • How was the interview experience with Twitter and Uber? If you want to get a perspective of a fresh pair of eyes, you can DM me and share me the experience and I can give my perspective. We can have a discussion like a retro session.

Interview a bunch of people, preferably from FANG. Ask them the same questions you were asked. Chances are some of them will do much better than you did and you can learn from them.
