As etiquette demands...$100k/5 YOE I'm stuck between these two. MS is offering $225k in Redmond and Netflix is closer to $275k. Ignoring the compensation (because they're close enough in my opinion), what do you think about the other stuff surrounding the job? Is it preferable to live near Los Gatos or Redmond? Are people nicer in one community versus the other? Which area do you think is more pleasant for someone looking to put down roots? Thanks blinders, please let me know if I can provide more info for you all.
Netflix is in los gatos ?
Right
I smell a troll, or this is not an engineer/management position.
How do you handle grey weather? Redmond is grey a good percentage of the year.
If your motivation is putting down roots and long term job security through years of experience, Netflix may not be a good culture fit.
So I take it these aren't values you're after?
There are plenty of people who have been at Netflix for a long time, but it’s because they continue to be the right people for the job and they continue to be high performers and introspective leaders. it’s not the kind of place one coasts by on their tenure.
Your quality of living will be higher with Microsoft. Better comp/ cost living. Better WLB. Debatably more interesting work.
can you break down your Microsoft offer and tell us what level?
Netflix and desire to put down roots do not go well with each other. Microsoft is perfect for it though.
Thank you for the insight!
The turnover rate for Netflix is the same as other companies in the area.
Seattle is is growing quickly as the next tech hub. MS has amazing job security and WLB for the industry. Other than those things it really depends on the specific team at each company.
Isn’t 275 a little low for Netflix? I see people making 300-350 easily
$225k in Redmond is more than $275k in Los Gatos. To make it equal Netflix should offer you $290. Check on cost of living calculator and factor in state taxes (0 in WA). Sorry for not ignoring comp. Los Gatos has better climate, Redmond community is better, at my opinion.
If you don't mind worrying EVERY SINGLE DAY about getting fired from the most cut throat company on the planet for 50k more (35k after taxes) then definitely Netflix!
Have you worked there? Yikes
Based on actual statistics, the turnover rate matches Google and Apple
Years of experience?
