New Grad Negotiation

Any best places to go for negotiation advice? Is > 150k base reasonable to ask for new grad undergrad at top tech companies in SF? Any new grads want to post their highest TC or base numbers they got so we have an idea of what's going out now / went out within last couple years? Fwiw: no offers YET just making sure I'm prepared. I'd also like to avoid saying which companies for now ( but will update thread in future) for anonymity purposes. Have people had the most luck with phone / email communication?

Yes 150k is a reasonable ask. However it is better to optimize for base + stocks rather than just base. The base/stocks ratio split varies heavily across companies.

Yeah definitely would ask for both but should prioritize base at private companies right?

Yes. Cash is king. However some great startups in bay area i have talked to in past did not offer good base pay. Equity was good and i was able to earn a good chunk by selling it to CEO when i left. (Joined at seed and left after series B and was able to sell the shares at a discount but still much higher grant price). So worth considering these options when evaluating the offer. Few years down the line you would realize it is easy to make more money if you focused on expanding the skill set for your first job

125/130 base, master

150 base is unrealistic unless you’re thinking about Jane street, 5 rings, etc. Check out https://www.whereto.tech/ the info is mostly up to date.

If you ask for that much base, you risk coming across as someone who didn’t do their research and is going to be willing to walk back a lot on that number.

Is it that much base though if I have competing offer at nearly 140 base?

No, you’re doing it right. You should ask for more once you have other offers.

I’ve gotten 110/100 and 125/120 with no negotiation yet
