It doesn’t always happen. In general, if the company is self-important and doesn’t think it needs to know why valued employees are leaving.

huh? that’s not what exit interviews are for. they don’t expect you to transfer your vast learnings and insights in a 30 minute “interview “ with a contracted HR rep.
