I'm a junior in CS, did a bunch of ML projects/internships, and hoping to do ML engineering full time at an AV company, after doing a masters in ML (whether on the modelling or optimization side). I have intern offers from: Nuro - ML infra (few 100s engineers, self-driving delivery, making own robot) Cruise - Perception (>1000 engineers, self-driving taxis) Lyft L5 - Prediction (few 100s engineers, self-driving taxis) All similar comp in the Bay area. What offer do you think I should go with this summer, and why? I'd say I'm most interested in the perception side, but anything with ML and interesting problems would do well for me.
So you got l5 offer as new grad?
In case you're not trolling: that's the name of Lyfts autonomous division.
To clarify, I have an intern offer as a junior from Lyft L5, which is their autonomous division.
Definitely cruise. Cruise is years ahead in terms of R&D. Also Autonomous is just a special project for Lyft. It's gone public and if the company starts bleeding the first ones to be shown the door would be such special projects guys. Wheras cruise specializes in AV tech. That's their only business and have huge backing from GM and Honda. It's a no brainier. Definitely cruise. Since it's an intern position I would prefer cruise as one can get to learn more there compared to newbies like Nuro.
Agree with Lyft. But for cruise vs nuro your logic is poor. Nuro is smaller with better talent than Cruise. Just because it’s small doesn’t mean you get to learn less. In fact you’ll get more scars and learn more in a smaller company. You’ll learn from people who’ve worked at the top av companies and at the same time have a chance to make a more significant impact. Definitely Nuro. I’ve heard bad things about the culture at Cruise.
What are the offer amounts? Personally curious, although useful to break ties.
You can find the post on Reddit with full details. All great offers.
Lyft
Not rooting for the home team?
@nuro do you mind sharing how is work at nuro? Have an interview coming up so would appreciate extra info!
Nuro is pretty lit. They’re aren’t a lot of data points on a Nuro offer but it appears as if it will be competitive with the famous Lyft return offer. These offers are good enough where I’d push for a spring coop just to try 2. I don’t think ML infra will teach you much ml but idk. Could you share your experience with the interview? I have a phone screen coming up and I’m terrified lol.
Nuro can’t compete with lyft. Have friends who received offers after interning.
Internships at Nuro? What do the offers look like?
Try waymo if you haven’t already.
A friend of mine interned at Lyft level 5 for prediction and he didn't have a super great experience. Said the interns were very much treated like interns and he wasn't impressed with their approach.
fake
Why? It's not hard to sweep all AV offers if you have AV experience. Sorry backend isn't as hot these days
Ah yes, because polls for fake offers makes a lot of sense
