Hi, I applied for OCI and was scheduled for a Sr SWE interview. The first stage was a phone screening. According to email it would be a coding challenge. The interviewer rings me and then starts asking questions like: What version of Kotlin did you use? (I said I don't remember) What version of Java did you use? (I said java 8) What's the new changes with Java 8? What does the volatile keyword do? What sort of payload (xml, json etc.) do you use for your restful services? What sort of configuration do you use(xml, yaml etc.) And stuff like that. It all took 10 minutes and he said do you have any questions. I asked him few stuff about his work and i learnt that he works in a different team than what i applied initially. Just before he hung up the phone i asked him will there be any phone coding challenge, he said nope. At that moment I felt like wtf and also questioned why? I mean this is an instant rejection without even checking my coding skills. It feels like he just wanted to reject me and had to ring me first in order to do that. What should I do? I haven't received the rejection email yet but if i passed i would know that i would have received a follow up email.
Dumpster fire, you saved time.
This sounds like a perm interview. Managers have to interview the candidates who applied to perm postings and ask them if they meet all the listed requirements
Yeah but do you use volatile keyword at work? I don't think so...
volatile is used, so does immutable.. but maybe you got a terrible interviewer
all easy questions. i would have aced it.
Yeah I forgot what volatile is. Seriously, who the hell uses that
its okay... too many IT jobs and too less candidates... don’t stress too much over these clients. just remember there are 5000 companies at minimum who could hire you and pay same $$$.
Read competition success review before attending interview
Which team?
I had the same experience with them, it was super weird.
