1. Applied to company x. Company is a Quant/HFT FinTech firm. 2. Pass phone screen for company x. 3. Onsite at company x was relatively easy. Interview questions seemed to be about unrelated things. I was asked network engineering questions for a securiry software engineering questions. I asked why there weren't questions asked about SecEng. Company x: "we (the company) don't have the skillset on our side to interview you" sign of a new position or something else?
Is it a new company or a company that really does have very few devs? Could they have been telling the truth about their ill-prepared interview?
600 employees. 50% engineering.
Most Quant/HFT places hire academically smart people with no skills, so your impressions check out. There’s nothing to be learned there, only money to be made, oddly enough.
