Expecting an offer from FB. Should I tell the recruiter before getting the offer? After getting the offer? After I join? Would probably need to take it within a couple months of joining. What’s the right thing to do?
Congratulations. Parental leave is a benefit that you shouldn't be worried to take. Unlike vacation days, you do not have to earn it before you can use it. So, take it the next day after joining if you have to.
If I was on the team, I would be annoyed that we hired someone who immediately goes on paternity leave.. creates more work for everyone in your absence .. it’s not like you’re the one who had the baby..
If you're going through bootcamp expect to spend at least 5 weeks there before you end up with a team. You should be honest with the team during your search. My guess is that demand is high enough that you'll still easily find a match.
If I was at your place would not have joined a new company, it's always a fresh start when you start something new and chaotic. Your new company would have expectations from you and you need to be 100% with your family. Think about that.
Don't worry about it
Take it, but also know you can spread it...you don't have to take it all at one time. Talk to your potential manager during team match
No need to disclose. It is a large company that has the benefit for the reason of attracting top talent. A Lyft recruiter told me they offer retroactive parental leave (4 months) even if you have the child up to one year before joining. Again, take it and do not feel guilty about it.
Facebook advertises a lot that no one should not face a situation where they have to decide between paycheck and a family, this is the time to test and know the real things behind. If you face issues later then obviously this is not the company you should work for. Obviously keep your team informed after joining.
Don't tell them up front, then take it.
Take it whenever you need to
No need to disclose
Is there a risk I alienate my boss / team? I’m worried about first impressions, not building sufficient credibility in the short window before taking leave and potentially getting put on PIP as a result
