Raising kids in Silicon Valley

I have a 3 yrs old, and am thinking about moving to Silicon Valley for higher pay. Is it doable? We are planning to have another one in the next yr or 2. Will I have time for my kids? Currently I have option to work completely from home, and my office is about 10 miles from home. I only come in when there are important meetings. iOS dev 6 YOE TC $160 More info: Im thinking moving to the Palo Alto area. My wife is an Nurse Practitioner, working part time, every other week and make about $100K. We are currently base in Orange county, Socal. My mortgage right now is about $2k for a 3 bedrooms. Reason to move is I think the network there is much better and I can grow more. Over here not too many company to jump around.

Assuming you're in a low COL place, don't do it man.

Terrible place to raise kids in SF with that TC.

Google poogers Mar 23, 2019

Hopefully that TC would be increasing if their moving to SF.

Twitter Oomnj Mar 23, 2019

Yeah wasn’t sure if TC was before or after. But even say 300K is kind of low to raise kids in SF, especially multiple kids. Plus all the heroin addicts on the streets eww. Kids don’t need that stuff in their lives

With 2 kids I am suffering . Don’t come here .

Google camelCase Mar 23, 2019

Location doesn’t have much to do with WLB. But good WLB usually means lower pay. COL is higher here than whenever you are. But there are many nice neighborhoods and decent schools, many people with children. Our child grew up here. No regrets.

Where are you? Don't do it. With 2 kids even 300k won't be enough. But besides money SFBA not a place for kids.

Added more info above. Hows the daycare in palo alto/ mountain view area? Anyone know how much it cost per month?

Nvidia RDTx28 Mar 23, 2019

About 1600 per child in mountain view

For preschool we’d pay closer to 2.5-3k per child for full time. Depends on the preschool and teacher/child ratio. You can get cheaper by worse ratio or going to a parent participation school. It is not cheap. Waiting lists can be long as well for the better places (1 year or more).
