I'm on an H1-B visa and got laid off from my job. I have another offer but the visa transfer is still in process, might take around a month or two. I was wondering if the layoff will show up in my employment record when I apply for jobs/ future visa transfers. Any insights would be helpful.
As far as the uscis is concerned, your old employer has cancelled your H1b and a new employer has applied for a H1 transfer. This is as it should happen with a job change. There will be no record of a layoff anywhere. Congrats on the new offer!
I was laid off and had a gap of 1.5 months in between jobs. I was on h1b too. I am pretty open about getting laid off due to lack of funding and people get it. This happened 4 years ago and I switched jobs twice in between.
Is it ok to tell recruiters that you were laid off, when looking for a new job?
Good luck!
Was laid off before on H1B. Haven’t had any issues with it (been 4 years)
Most firms don’t release the reason as “lay-off “ specially if a severance package was involved... so you’ll be fine ... look at you termination letter and make sure you enter similar details in background check for the new job.
Thanks everyone for sharing your stories. Very helpful.
Laid off on H-1b got 13 offers. (Linkedin, Microsoft, Splunk etc) Never loose hope. Best things happen for those who wait and act at the right time
Damn man ! Great job ... TC ?

Good work, I agree. Same ship here ;)
You will be fine.. happened to me as well and I worried too much about it. Everyone gave me different story but the visa transfer went smooth without any issues. It was about 40 days between lay off and start date.
Thanks for sharing. I am also concerned about the layoff being on record for any future employment. Does that affect anything?
If you were laid off then it doesnt affect anything.
