Amazon recruiter contacted me for L6 SDM position. I told him that I am in the process with G/F for L6 positions, so I requested him to put me in Amazon L7 loop. Amazon recruiter insisted A L6 equals to G/F L6. After the call, I checked levels-fyi again. For IC, it shows A6 =F/G 5, While for SDM, A6=F/G 6. Does it mean Amazon SDM6 is paid much more than its IC6? Or levels-fyi is flawed on this? What’s the the mapping between A and G/F you observed? TC315
Thank you. Good to know that. 10% is not enough to justify one level up.
Amazon recruiters are pathological liars.
Levels.fyi is based off compensation. The bands for IC roles are accurate based on what I am reading in Blind. However, it is my assessment that the scope of IC work for an Amazon L6 != scope of work for G/F L5. For managerial work, I believe they are equivalent in scope, but I have way less data points for this so this is a low confidence assertion. Basically an Amazon L6 manager owns a team of 5 to as many as >10 (that’s usu the point where they are close to being promoted to L7, and get to be a manager of managers). This is pretty much what a L6 equivalent manager in G owns too, but I will be glad to be corrected. So I guess for a meaningful discussion, you might want to clarify with the recruiter if we are talking abt pay or scope.
Thank you Meh Meh, it makes more sense now. Agree that they match in terms of scope.
False
There’s slightly overlap since L7 at Amazon bar is too high. But in general no. I’m talking about IC. SDM in general gets 10% more on average same level I heard.
