Anyone got any insight on how realistic it is for an IT Guy to be able to land a fif cross country? Trying to land a gig in CA or Seattle coming from GA. Not really getting any traction, but im wondering if it's unrealistic for me to expect a company to be willing to relocate me as an IT giy as opposed to me being an engineer. I usually apply for a gig, then find a recruiter from the company on LinkedIn and drop a line introducing myself but I never get any response besides the "thanks for applying, sorry you suck" email Any help is appreciated!
What is an IT guy? If you're not already performing manager role, you're not going to get one in a new conpany.
Im in a IT ops lead position, which is equivalent to IT manager. IT folks generally handle all things not code... Network infrastructure Machine deployment Patch management Software rollouts Helpdesk staffing Stuff like that
Lead isn't equivalent to manager. If it's, your current title would be manager. As a lead you're responsible for getting work done with junior employees and helping them with tech issues. As a manager you're responsible for the career growth of people reporting to you. Without people managing, budgetting, hiring, firing, promoting, mentoring you'll not get manager role. In my opinion, you should apply for lead desktop support and transition to manager role. It's very possible within a year.
