Recently I got an offer from Google for their Zurich, Switzerland office. I am a single person and will move to Zurich from Berlin, Germany. I will be given 12000 CHF before tax as relocation allowance. How much tax will be applied on this amount? Is this money well enough for first month expense?
You will be taxed around 15-20% the year after, retro-actively together with your full yearly income. This is more than enough for first expense. You don’t need the 3x rent, you can use ‘Swisscaution’ for the deposit instead.
Congrats! Tc? How were the interviews? Topic of questions and difficulty?
Cool, Switzerland is one of the best place
Congrats !! Livin my dream. How was the interview plz
Did the recruiter ask you about your current TC and what was your response?
Taxed as regular income so about 25-30% with AHV. For a temp apartment or airbnb, sure, it's enough. For your first lease, no, you should have 4x rent on hand to pay first month + deposit, expect 2-3k rent.
What! How large of a space do you get for 2K?
2k should get you about 50-60 m^2, 1-bedroom apt in middle of Zurich, good for a single or couple without kids With some luck you could also find something in 1.5k-2k range but don't count on that for your first lease here, there's quite a bit of competition in this price range. Unless you like 1h+ commute and smell of cow shit then you can find even cheaper offers in the middle of nowhere Room in a flatshare would start at around 700 Fr - 1k
