Is it too late to join AWS, Microsoft, or Google Cloud as an outside field sales rep role? Aka has the party come and gone? Saw an article in the WSJ about Google Cloud investing in their sales force and made me think that this “cloud thing” is really just getting started. Curious to hear what others think. Any alternatives you’d feel are better for sales people over the next 10 years?
I absolutely agree with the above. Now if you want a steady paycheck with decent market growth, and not as much work, aws seems like a good bet to make decent cash for a long time without volatility, too much hard work, yet with limited upside.
I’d actually be very interested in a highly leveraged sales role where it’s raining money or I’m eating microwave dinners... Just got to figure out what companies to target and cold call some sales VPs! 😜
Depends what you’re looking for. You won’t get rich selling cloud at aws or google because they are know to have low leveraged plans. You need to sell for a niche firm offering a specialized product with a high leverage plan to make lots of money.
Thanks for the feedback. Any examples of the types of companies you’re referring to? I’m also wondering if being a sales guy at one of the big 3 is more of a “support the channel partner” role, do you know?
An example would be skytap Depends really on your offering if you’re just selling iaas I would say yes but depends so many different things count as cloud now.
