Looking to relo to Seattle and want insight in house costs, traffic, school districts. Helpful websites, feedback about experiences. What not to dos etc.
Don't, we're full.
If only a behavioral round was kept for people like You, Seattle would comprise of 1 less douchebag
Full of shit or something else?
Expensive housing, terrible traffic, decent schools.
Correction: decent schools on Eastside. Homeless and junkies in Seattle.
Truth.
Housing costs have increased disproportionately with the rest of the country, school districts are decent in the typical way (Seattle is more hit and miss than suburbs), but traffic is unquestionably horrendous. Seattle has a war against cars. It's a decent place to be if the negatives (traffic, housing, weather and Seattle freeze) don't outweigh the positives (epic summers, CoL, diverse employers)
If you have a penis and are single, nothing but fat lesbos here. Beware
Lol okay
What part of Illinois? Chicago or more suburban? To compare Seattle to Chicago: there are not as many different neighborhoods or ethnic areas as Chicago. Seattle is a smaller more homogenous city. Seattle public transit is not great. There's nothing like the metra or the L. Just buses which are crowded. This is important because unlike Chicago which has a lot of sprawling suburbs, Seattle has a much smaller metropolitan area and you will have to drive if you live outside the city. Seattle has heinous traffic and really bad drivers. Chicago has aggressive drivers but they are far more competent than Seattle. Seattle parking sucks. There is no app like SpotHero which works incredibly well in Chicago. I once spent 30 minutes circling around looking for parking. Chicago has better art museums. Better museums in general. Better performance art and theater (it's a bigger scene in Chicago so more options) Seattle has a better surrounding area. Instead of cornfields for days and Wisconsin, Seattle has 3 national parks and Canada. Housing in Seattle gets expensive fast and is experiencing a similar phenomenon as SF. but you'll still be able to find something. Chicago is more affordable.
Great insight-thanks
I’ll second on the parking piece. Holy shit, it’s bad.
And did you make the move to Seattle? How is it?
It’s expensive and gray here.
From the bay? Or from where? Also you’ll get different answers to this depending on TC
From Illinois
