YEO: 5 TC: 190k I’ve been in the JavaScript/ NodeJS world for five years, and I want start to spend more time focusing on learning a new language. Since diving into CS, and really enjoying it, I want to start transitioning out of web/ front-end. What language should I learn next to help in career advancement in companies that are solving interesting problems. Current stack: Node, Express or GraphQL, Docker, React, Redux, AWS(multiple services), etc.
Honestly prioritize for company/product first and just learn whatever stack they use. That said it’ll probably be difficult for you to make a lateral transition if you get a role that’s C++ heavy.
If you want to get seriously involved in backend then java/java based webservices & micro-services.
Sounds good. Are you on the QB / Mint team?
No, were you with Intuit before?
Python for interviews. Java or C++ for actual work, depending on what you want to do
Java. It's simple and useful for backend services, and it's not just another dynamically typed language.
I made that transition with Python and Django/Django REST Framework.
Forth or Fortran
Erlang and scala
Java probably is the best career option.
Python and Scala! Very productive languages and makes you feel good about yourself to persist through hardships
Python or java
