In the final moments of job search. Signed an offer letter with FAANG, background check starting, and I have no more interviews left. Starting in Jan 2019. I'm super afraid that some shit might go wrong, 2019 budget refresh leads to head count reduction, team gets laid off, black swan event etc. I also cannot overstate the importance of this move - this is the MOST IMPORTANT career and life event of MY LIFE. I'm coming from a no name midsize company in the Midwest, i really cannot understate how impt this is. If shit hits the fan, I'll be screwed and I have to restart interview (it took me 6 mths and 20 on-sites to get to where I am) and I will literally go NUTS if that happens. Therefore, I'm thinking to accept two offers. The FAANG offer and another tier 2 company with a later start date. Once I start at FAANG, all is good then I renege the other offer. Dick move I know, but this move is so important that if it blows up I'll either go crazy, or on a rampage. Lucky I don't own guns. What does blind think?
Totally fine.
Blind thinks you are a dick. Do you expect the FANG company to pull the offer because of cause? They all have enough that they won’t have funding issues and pull. If you absolutely need the security, then slow roll the other company. Tell them you can’t make a decision over the holidays...
I don't want to do this, but there's no way I can drag out the other offers for another month. But what if something goes wrong? Employment is 'at will'. Maybe stock market will crash next week, all FAANG lose 90% stock value, massive layoffs. Let me ask you, if the consequences of FAANG not following through with the offer is DEATH, like you will literally die, and the only option is to be a dick like I described, would you do it? Besides the Bay area has lots of talent, so at most the other company loses a month time most of it is holidays so it's almost no issue for them since hiring stops at year end.
Yes and a huge asteroid can also obliterate all living creatures on earth next week as well. If FAANG made you an offer, they will honor it.
One thing to know if you are obliged to share this with the companies or not? I’m asking since I don’t know but I’m almost the same.
I dont think u need another offer. FANG usually take care of you
Bro, have a stiff drink, yell “moseltov!” To yourself in the mirror and then accept both offers like the devious cunning whipper snapping dragonfly that you are! Go get em!
I kid you not... I really don't want to do this.
Why? Business isn’t emotional. You’re acting emotional. Remove the emotions. You’re going to hedge your risk by accepting both offers. There’s no feelings here.
If a company can extend an offer and rescind. Similarly, you can accept an offer and rescind.
Dude you are being paranoid. Relax OK? Nothing to worry about FANG's offer. Do the right thing and don't burn any bridges. The valley is small, you never know who will be your next boss / colleagues, don't be a dick.
Not being a dick in dire times gets you fucking killed. I know at least 4 people who were kind and then other people screwed them over. One of them starved, the other three were so depressed that they took a bunch of drugs and are trying to climb out of their psychosis. Don't give horrible advice like that again.
Gets you killed? Way to be over dramatic.
You'll likelier to lose both if you say yes to both. If somehow they catch wind that's what you're doing (ex. they used the same background check company, etc), they'll drop their offer.
This is a Black swan event
Do what you got to do, but be aware that there will be a bridge burnt based on who you stand up
You’re good. Accept both.
