Should I join Tesla as a SWE
I have a best friend who could refer me but he refused to. Says it's terrible culture. Should I push hard or leave it and apply to other places. Currently at Hitachi Yoe 2 TC 110
It really depends on your team. My WLB is great and the people are awesome. If you get excited about the mission and want to help make cool stuff, give it a shot. Not many companies have as much potential upside as Tesla. The product roadmap is insane, and once we start sustainably producing a product, it disrupts. I don’t see any *real competition now and in the near future. If TC is your top priority, other boring companies pay a lot more.

The only reason I'd say to do it is the name. Tesla is certainly a Google caliber company in terms of prestige in the tech world. Tesla on a CV or resume is at least an auto interview anywhere else.

Do you like hobbies, family, and friends out side of work if so don't join a Musk company. Your friend is probably right. The novelty of the "mission" wears off when you realize how much the BS Musk puts out stinks.

Entirely depends on the team. My team is pretty chill & pay is on par with *FAANG (atleast on my team).
Work life balance is good for me and pay is at par or better than other places I can imagine
Some long days. Pay is pretty good. YoE 9 so know how these things go.
If it's between Tesla and nothing... Choose Tesla. If it's between Tesla and a company that respects WLB and doesn't abuse workers... choose the other company.
