I have 12 years of software development experience @ MSFT + other smaller places. A friend of mine recently suggested I should consider switching to management, said it’d diversify my experiences, give me a different perspective and possibly be more rewarding from both career and pay standpoints (according to him). He thinks I’m good at communicating ideas and would be a good leader. I honestly don’t mind trying but I’m not sure this is a good idea. I fear losing my craft and marketability. What do you guys think?
If you get a chance why not? But it's always good to be up to date with new technology when you are manager, so that when you will be made a developer again, like it has happened in Microsoft already, you are in a good position for the switch back
