I'm in the Dynamics org at Microsoft. I got and accepted an offer with Google doing commerce stuff. So completely different than enterprise software. Can I tell people where I'm going? Will I get booted because Google is technically a competitor even though unrelated products? I'm planning to give two weeks notice. It'll be hard because my start date isn't until December. What would you do? And why?
What is the reason for wanting to tell them?
What I've never really understood is why would one get walked out? This person has been working for sometime so there's nothing new which they'll get access to immediately. Furthermore, regarding damaging something, one might still do that before announcing and leave. What's the real reason to walk someone out immediately?
In reality nothing ā from managements perspective though a lot. They see the competition as fierce and it looks really bad to have someone working for your competitor in your midst.

At Microsoft they typically walk you out that day if itās to a competitor
Donāt say anything. Give 2 weeks notice and say youāre quitting for personal reasons. Take sick days the final two weeks as needed. There is no benefit to you if you notify them. Youāre getting a better future outside regardless of their feelings. Give them the minimum because the more you give the more chance they have to do negative things.
U will be walked out if u tell them u r going to Google.
If your start date isnāt until December, pretend that you found the job after you leave Microsoft and donāt tell anyone.
This is the best answer so far āļø
There's no benefit for you in sharing. Keep it for the LinkedIn update.
What if manager asks me specifically ? Can I say I will share that on my last day ? Does the walking out apply for every level ? Even 59s ?
Just reiterate that you're leaving for personal reasons or just say your refocusing towards a different area. It's really simple: keep your mouth shut and listen. The way they react will tell you loads about how much they value your work and how they behave as human beings.
^Best answer ever!
What will you do for benefits between jobs?
If you want to be walked out and get 2 week paid vacation, yes. If you want to finish your work and leave a good impression, no. Its a win-win situation
What if you gave 3 weeks notice, you still get walked out?
Depends on team, ask your manager
