Hi, I have a phone interview at Square for backend engineer in Risk team. Any insights what to expect. Is LC medium enough ?.
OP or me?
If you have to ask...💅🏻
I failed in Square interview few months back. They do create their own question and don’t generally ask questions that are out there in the market. Got to know this in a podcast by someone from Square.
I really liked the interview format. It was an LC medium question based on DFS/BFS and I actually made some mistakes since I was deriving the solution and I had seen the problem for the first time. I got into next round. Other companies would have failed me as I was not flawless.
@raise do you mind providing a little more context (you can Private message if you like). I also got a DFS like problem recently. I solved the main problem, follow up, but my code definitely wasn't flawless and I even had an off by one error (output should've printed n items but it was printing n + 1). Did they ask you for a second phone interview as your next round or did they bring you on-site?
They advertise it as "we have a different process", "we do collaborative pair programming" but in reality you are supposed to solve the entire problem with hardly any guidance from the interviewer and the problem is just a variation of some Leetcode problem. Same experience in both their phone screens. Same old interviewing technique wrapped in a fancy name.
