Tech scene in Canada and compensation adjusted to cost of living

What are the major tech companies if any in Canada? Do they offer good amount of pay for the cost of living? If it is possible to get permanent residence there in a few years then why isn't that a better option, given the rising healthcare, housing and education costs in US? Why are people still so attached to the US (especially Indians who potentially have to wait decades to get GC)? Just trying to start a discussion here. Any thoughtful comments are welcome and appreciated.

Shopify in Ottawa. Google in Waterloo. Heard Banks pay well but work is prob boring. Startup pay is terrible compared to US.
