Hello blinders, What will your take when put into the situation where it’s expected from you to work in new technology ( or prog. Lang...that you are not aware of ) while Interviewed for different one. Here is the scenario: let’s say I have 14-15 years of experience in Java.. I gave interviews for S/w engineering role in Java... I been selected for the role. Now, after joint org. They say we need you to work on “Go” Lang.. and then contribute to DevOps.. however I have no prior experience of Go and DevOps... What should I do ? And why ? It’s more like will you keep your expertise in Java or you are ok to shift your expertise in other technical work.. it may not be programming but let’s say DevOps/automated testing/ server configuration/AWS ...
Stop complaining OP. A good developer should be able to pick up any language. Also, Go is a super easy language to pick up from Java.
C’on I am not complaining.. I am just asking views.. BTW, I did the same what all of your thinking
If you have 15yoe in Java why worry about adding another year. I'd be utterly bored of java and excited to use Go at that point. Though if it was 100% excel vba or something I'd start planning my exit.
Agreed! But lol for excel VBA.. I mean ya it’s really turnoff...
Was it a bait and switch in the job description? If yes then you have a reason to be upset. If there was no mention of Go or DevOps in the job description you should correct this asap, if you cannot have your manager back you up, it maybe time, however short, to leave.
They never mentioned any specific techs while interviewing... I just joined them... they told they are independent of techs
Picking up new languages and technologies is easy for a good engineer. It’s the concepts that matter so as long as you’re good on those you’ll find that you can figure out Go just fine
Yes I thought same and hence also chosen to work... at the end of the day we are supply and need to work on demands
