I want a stable work environment so that I don't have to worry about getting a new job due to PIPs or unstable growing companies. What companies, organizations, sectors or niches in the SWE space would you recommend for someone that values stability way over maximizing TC? TC: 90k YOE: 2
Work for the government.
Shit pay though unless you work there 10+ years. Speaking from personal experience
Directly. Although I heard contractor is more lucrative. Also it was first job out of college. Gotta say WLB was lit af though. Did 9 day/80 hours. Every other Friday was off and other Friday’s were 8 hour days
Bloomberg
Definitely not, we are seeing signs of layoffs and budgetary cuts once the recession comes along
LinkedIn. Best balance of money and wlb. I have never heard anyone getting PIPed here. Infact there was a terrible hire and it took the team over 6 months to take any action (person resigned before being PIPed or anything).
Such companies die first at the sign of a downturn. Watch your back and stay sharp. Enjoy it because it's a rare pleasure!
You can anticipate about a year or two at the most at any company. You haven't lived through any bloodbaths yet. QE has kept kicking the can down the road, but if it becomes like 00s, there's no place where you'll be safe. Put your head down and work, network - a lot, and stay sharp!
+1
I have always been told medium size company is the way to go. Too big they always try to shrink size of employees so they can get annual bonuses and raises stock prices. Goldie lock zone is between 800-1200 employees AND their business is good. Non profit for a long time is a plus too.
Google, stability and TC. Best of both worlds.
Just wait till they write off GCP.
TC varies, not the best paying job on average anymore
