Twitch vs Snapchat

Twitch : L5 Snapchat: L4 Levels start at L1 at Snap, and L4 at Twitch, so Snap is giving me the more senior role. Still waiting on offer details, but from initial conversations, Twitch TC will be ~230-250k the first year and Snap will be ~380k. Both roles would be in the Bay. Twitch gives Amazon RSUs, which are more stable, but have a heavily backloaded vesting schedule. Snap stock has been rocky, but will start vesting immediately (and there’s a lot of potential upside since the stock would be granted at the current 1-2 month average). I have Pinterest, Facebook, Google, and Uber onsites upcoming, but if these two were your only choices, what would you pick? YoE: 5 TC: 180k

Snap. Look at Twitch ratings on Glassdoor, it's gone down dramatically after the acquisition. How many years of experience do you have?

That’s true. It also looks to be bouncing back a bit now, right? YoE is 5 years.

Depends on the team, project and other things too, but if I have to pick between the two with this info, it would be Snap. However, tbh, both seem not so great for different reasons, I would try to get better offers from better places.

Think about the overall condition of Snapchat and how that company is being ran. Given the massive decline in their stock price due to mis-management, I would also think long and hard about the risk involved with any compensation package that includes stock. My opinion is to stay away from Snap, but that’s not an endorsement for Twitch. Honestly, I’d throw those interviews into the ‘prepping for something better’ bucket and shoot for one of the FANG opportunities.

Twitch has become alot better over the past 6 months with the new office and cleaning up some of the mismanagement. Certain teams are also better than others. Happy to trade DMs if you have more questions.

How is work life balance at Twitch, maybe compared to the stories we hear at Amazon itself?

Snap. The stocks are going at very low rate. If Snap pulls back to its previous levels in a few years you will wish big.

Snap, they might be a sinking ship but they have potential and offer is better. I’d go with them for now

Amazon Shoopy Oct 18, 2018

Snap. No question. That’s a $150k TC difference. Why are you even contemplating?

Def snap

What if Snap goes under?

Facebook zael Oct 18, 2018

snap’s vesting schedule is nice. monthly with no cliff. should help guard against the downside of the stock decline

note that the RSU valuation is the average of the previous two months. if you started any time in Nov, it would be avg closing of Sep and Oct
