Doesn't help that the article is from Recode and their people just hate Uber. Although I'd blame Uber's weak management of PR on Travis Kalanick... He obviously needed yet more experience as a founder to be able to run Uber well... Although there aren't many people who likely would have such experience.
On one side, this isn't super terrible, although Uber having not made the processes around those things solid earlier is an understandable startup problem. On the other... The government randomly presuming to tell companies what to do and how to maintain their relationship with customers is offensive. I'm all for independent auditing... Not more power for the government crazies. This isn't China.
