Considering to apply for Uber as an engineer. Have very strong JavaScript skills, soft skills are not my weak point, can sell myself. Currently picking up with Go and really enjoy it. Can somebody from there share possible interview questions, or give any advise how to be better prepared?
Ams, right? What level, yeo? I recently failed system design at uber. Super smart people, everyone extremely nice. Coding tasks were OK, nothing crazy difficult. I coded in c#, language is not relevant for the interview.
You’re right, sir. Amsterdam. 7 yeo. Have you applied for Europe office or US?
I also applied to Ams.
B.Brave, comrade. They’re pretty standard. I’ve even been asked the “spell the word on a telephone dial” question everyone loves do much. Make sure your laptop is ready to roll straight away (spent first two minutes trying to remember the signature of STDERR output function in Java) BTW, golang is not that useful in the AMS branch of Uber, if it’s the one you are interviewing with. They are mostly Java, some python plus an iOS dev tools team.
Yep, already know that. I don’t intend to stay long with Amsterdam office. I enjoy Uber for their vision and would to to work for urban mobility industry. Would you think it would be possible to move inside company to other office or use my skills in Amsterdam? Can tolerate Java, but have no intents working in mobile.
Sorry, forgot you’re not from Uber :)
we tend to go tougher on candidates from booking.com due to the horrible rep. especially if you spent more than a year there. still, explain your thought process and think about edge cases, and it should be fine.
Yes, i was told about it. My college felt this on his skin. Honestly, that bothers me most.
Can you elaborate? What kind of reputation is that?
Practice some coding (as others have suggested) and look into systems design preparation around distributed systems, if you will interview for payments. Basically, when designing a system, be able to talk about the tradeoffs from a systems perspective, identify bottlenecks and choose solutions to scale up. This interview is a conversation where we go deep on what experience you have building systems from the ground (which we do quite a bit). Good luck!
All my coding questions were straight off leetcode, design is pretty straightforward and soft interview questions should show excitement in Uber’s mission
Would reading through Uber blog be enough to get excited in company mission?
Yea definitely would be a plus ask questions about uber works
