https://www.cnbc.com/2019/04/11/uber-paid-google-58-million-over-three-years-for-map-services.html? Uber said that it entered into an agreement with Google around map services in October 2015. “From January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2018, we have paid Google an aggregate of approximately $58 million pursuant to this agreement,” Uber said. Shortly after the agreement was signed, Uber hired Manik Gupta, then the director of product management for Google Maps; Gupta is now Uber’s chief product officer.
Why no use apple maps ? ;)
Nice. That's 'what they don't teach you at Harvard Business School'.
What’s there to teach
That feels cheap.
I mean think about it... google was charged $19 million an year. The Chief Product Officer who must be leading this will probably make 5-10 M during the IPO. One guy making a significant fraction of what google made in one year is crazy
Apple would have charged $500million.
Then the deal-maker wouldn't have got hired.
Google probably invested substantially more into developing maps over that period, so seems pretty cheap to me.
Like my buddy Alfredo always says: Yea, the good stuff, it's expensive, man.
Cheap.
Looks like maps team doesn't want to make money. They charge $19 million a year to Uber and give it to consumers for free. As a consumer, thank you Google. As a stock holder, wtf Google.
Bing maps API ready to swoop in if your prices get too crazy...many companies flight our maps API in certain markets to show Google that they can and will make the switch if prices don’t stay low.
Haha. I was in microsoft before. Please don't mention "Bing maps" and "ready to swoop in" in the same sentence. I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't shut maps down yet after selling much of it to Uber 5 years ago.
Oh thats what killed our own mapping initiative.
That’s very less considering the fact that all their business is built on top of it. If I were google, I would just raise the royalty amount it and let them have it.
But the reality is that you are not Google.
Fair point lol 😂
