I know of the obvious good and bad of working 100% remotely. For those of you that have or are currently doing so, what are some things you didn't expect?
Out of sight, out of mind... (visibility)
The problem is you have a tendency to start and finish work earlier and later than normal
Career growth effectively stops. And you feel more blindsided by org changes since your visibility narrows. People also forget about you more and you become a second class citizen when it comes to projects and opportunities.
Laundry... the family thinks you’re actually home & therefore assumes you’re up to run all sorts of errands at all sorts of time
Junior role you are fine. Mid management not a great idea and if you are C level it does not matter. Depends on company culture and also how the company is doing. Also keep in mind that you are not around to play the perception game. Unfortunately is many companies it's not about what you deliver. It's mostly about how you are perceived. Out of sight and a rumor mill means it can end your employment with the company with no way for you to counter perception.
All of these are great points, social networking kind of stops as well although I do try to go to events in the evening being able to network with colleagues is important.
Working from home 100% of the time means you are always at work
Yup, good one. Could also argue that you are also always not at work.
