Was my Riot Games application auto rejected?

I spent a good chunk of time writing a cover letter and application to Riot Games but in less than 24 hours I received an automated bot response rejecting my application. I’m just wondering what I can do to improve my application and whether or not my application was even read by HR. I felt like I was a good fit for the role and had most of the requirements checked off in my resume. I realize Riot receives tons of applications but I wish I had the chance to at least interview. :’(

YOE? Current level? Reach out to a recruiter on linked in and ask if they have any positions you’d be a fit for.

I have almost 2 years and the posting was asking for 3. But other than YOE I met all the other requirements.

So for any listing that has a minimum YOE, is that always considered a hard requirement?

Find an internal employee to refer you. Also mention you are fluent in Chinese if you can.

What role were you looking at?

I applied to the Software Engineer - Developer Systems Solutions position in Los Angeles.

Riot Games Xhoe68 Feb 4, 2019

They probably just took a quick look at your YOE and determined you were an associate and not a mid level engineer

This is besides the point, but unless you are seriously passionate about gaming, you would probably have a better time, higher pay, better learning experiences, and better exit ops, if you went to work for a bay area company. Gaming industry is in a weird time right now, would advise against diving headfirst into it if you can go somewhere else that's more diversified.

Riot underpays. Ask about their salary range if you get an HR interview. Their campus is cool though.

You need to include your LoL username and explain how good you are before you even get a real response.

What if you are hardstuck?

Back in the days, you had to be a passionate fan of LOL to pass the interviews. Common brain teaser /market sizing questions would be like in a random month, during this season, how many teemo shrooms do you think were generated in country X. Or looking at this gold differential graph over a match, what do you think happened, what was the strategy used by the teams, and who do you think the heroes selected were. Back in the haydays, I heard they flew their entire team out to Korea for world finals, and then again the same year to the Bahamas for a few days for company vacation. But heard those days are no more

If you don't play LoL on a frequent basis that's an instant disqualifcation. (Even for finance positions)

This is 100% false

Email the recruiter and ask for guidance on what you need to change to get past being filtered out. Do that.
