My neighbor in India literally lost his job in the 2008 recession and relocated to India and has been living there ever since. If you don't have a green card, that's the only practical option because most companies don't hire during recession.
Get another job immediately, even a crummy one as long as it sponsors - otherwise go home, but potentially come back to do a masters and use that time to recruit. That's what one of my friends did in 2009. Or come back on a B1 visa for 90 days to attend a conference and line up some interviews. At least you don't have to go through the lottery again.
H1b rules are now changed and allows for 60 days to find a new job.
You’re so worried about a 2015 PD? India PD is backlogged 10+ years.
Isnt thw current date backlogged 10+ years. ?
If you take the straight and narrow, find sponsorship, go on temp student visa, if you got rich and are from a country with short backlog (not China) try EB5. Ask company to keep you on payroll during severance period. If you get “creative”: People say this is a bad idea but I’ve always wondered. What if you start a company. No sponsorship needed. California is a sanctuary state, and VCs don’t ask for your proof of legal status when you raise money. I bet there would soon be a hero for the undocumented immigrant class in the media. Or what if you do consulting gigs. You have to be willing to be undocumented for a long time and maybe even turn into political figure
You can't leave the country. If you do, you can't come back to sell your assets and take your money out.
Some folks enroll into college and get into F1. But then you run into the risk of H1B lottery or running out of OPT. But it’ll at least keep you in the country
Should have money for that
come back once economy gets better.
You know, 237 was not jammed at all in 2009..
Don't know how this information is helpful. Thanks though. Less or no traffic during recession is common knowledge.
I disagree. This is very useful information.
