Is bootcamp fun or stressful? Are expectations too high when you start on your team, or do they give you a few weeks to ramp up? Do devs hit burnout after awhile, or does it get easier over time (ie is it hard to stay there for 6+ years)?
I joined as E6, been there 2.5 years. Bootcamp is fun: senior devs are in high demand so you get a lot of options. Hard part is learning to synthesize your past experience with Facebooks culture. For example the shift to hyper focus on PSC, relaxed code quality, etc. Youโll have to decide where youโll give ground and where you stand firm. Burnout depends on the team. Good news is that switching is easy. Donโt wait until itโs too late.
What is PSC
How does the ramp up path look like? Say first month UI tweaks, 2nd bugs, 3rd owning low impact features and so on? Just trying to get a sense how fast does one have to move? The term "Move fast" was thrown around a lot during my interviews
Bootcamp feedback is very positive overall. You get the whole half (several months) to ramp up. Your first half will be โtoo new to evaluateโ rating. The rest is up to you. Iโm here for more than 6 years.
Thanks! The "too new to evaluate" rating corresponds to a non-zero refresher I hope?
You dont get a refresher for that afaik. I wouldnโt optimize around that either. Might send people a wrong signal.
