Currently at Walmart in Arkansas nearing the first year of my professional experience. I like my boss, WLB and the tech stack we use, but I'm getting tired of the area and average TC. Also while my team is good and there are some outstanding people outside of my team, most of the organization doesn't strike me as top talent. Currently waiting for my visa and should also get a promo within the next few months hopefully. Ideally I plan on moving to Bay/NY/Austin. Should I stay here for another year? Transfer to another office? Or just start looking already? Should it be manageable for me to land interviews with top companies? TC:~105k
What is thees Arkansas you talk about?
You want interviews, get referrals
Have a lot of friends at tier 1 companies so will definitely ask them for referral. Thanks for the reminder.
You can ask for referrals here on blind as well
You are asking the wrong question, B players follow & A players lead. Short answer make something, at Walmart or somewhere else. Don’t ask to get “picked” that’s a losing perspective imo. Take that as you will.
I'm not sure where I insinuated that I wanna get picked? I've been taking in extra responsibilities and all that stuff but I'm wondering about whether I should move now or in a few years
I think if you are driven by TC & location then chase TC & location.
Only losers work at giant retail companies.
I feel you, Target
Yea but Target always has plenty of registers open. Unlike some *cough Walmart ^_^
Don't wait for a promo 1) It will take you months to do the interviews already 2) Level at new company might not depend on the promo
I hear the culture at the Carlsbad Walmart office is great. Maybe you could transfer? As someone who lives in North County San Diego, I can tell you that it is a great place to live: nice weather, good Mexican food, good beer, laid back people and atmosphere. I love it here. Just make sure that your comp is adjusted to the increase in cost of living. We are not as insane as SF Bay Area, but it will be quite a bit higher than Arkansas, I imagine.
Move to their competitor, Albertsons. I hear it's Tier 1 for tech
This is the correct answer. If you enjoy Walmart, then you'll probably like Albertsons even more.
Already got rejected.
