Got Below two offers. Both are Cloud based roles. Both are for Denver location

AWS
Role : Sr. Technical Account Manager
Base: 153K
Year1 Signon : 74K
Year2 Signon: 57K
RSU: 91shares vested over 4 years (5/15/40/40)

Google
Role: Cloud Customer Engineer
Base: 140K
Year1 Signon: 20K
Bonus Target: 42.86%
GSU: 95K vested over 4 years(25 percent every year i guess)

Factors to consider:

Am expert in AWS cloud services. But new to Google Cloud.
I cant Understand the Target Bonus in Google. Will it be always paid full or depends on sales Quota met?
I know AWS doesn't give any refreshers for next 4 years. How are refreshers are google ?
Am not worried about work culture of AWS. Ok to stretch myself.
Will amazon stock grow as fast as it been past few years?

The offers seem just about equal if you average it out over 4 yrs, give or take a few thousand $. What you do get at Google are refreshers which you won’t get at AWS for a few years. So purely from TC, Google is better. However, as everyone says, AWS is more established and GCP is trying to find its bearings. Also, the GCP annual bonus (42.86%) is highly dependent on meeting the quota which is not very realistic. The upside is if GCP does get it together, it can be a huge payday if you stick through it. I had offers from both AWS & GCP and decided to go with Google for better WLB & growth opportunity. They also hooked me up with a very good TC in a low COL area while also coming in at higher level. Lastly, IMO it is just cooler to say you work at Google than at Amazon.

The biggest problem with GCP offer is can we get full bonus or not? Also AWS stock can grow faster than Google stock.

You can only grow that stock if you have any to begin with. You will only get 5%,15% vested the first 2 yrs while you get no refreshers. Depending on what level you come in at, you could make six figure refreshers which will have greater value than what Amazon stock growth will do. Not to mention, when Google does start doing better, you will benefit.

It makes sense. You work a ton of hours and are at the beckon call of the customer (On-Call)

Google sales is a dumpster 🔥. Upside is our solution seems to be to throw money at the problem. So of you can keep your head afloat there is likely more opportunities for growth here

I am amazed they pay TAMs so much compared to creative roles like SWE and PM.

They've lots of variations like strategic accounts, this and that. I don't know the whole structure on how it works.

Solution architect role in denver had 50% travel. I wasn’t ready for that much travel. They were ready to offer me that role too but same TC. Have unique record of holding all 11 AWS certs

Don't base it on my opinion as my experience is more from interactions as a service product manager. I've found some Tam's who do a great job on understanding customer requirements and getting them a solution. And then there are ones who are like just parrots asking customer questions. But given the offer is so solid, one option for you would be to join and then if you don't like move to solutions architect. And if you don't like that either, then I suppose Google offers are valid for a year. So, jump to that if these two wouldn't work?

I’m amazed by your Sign On tbh. AWS wins here though Google is a great company, stay away from GCP sales.

      Which part?
I have best friends at GCP in sales and was told to stay away from sales if I ever went over. Basically they have no real sense of direction or plan and it’s chaos vs Azure or AWS. The company though, they freaking love working at. As for the AWS Sign On portion, knowing what I’ve been offered and what others have gotten, just a solid big offer for Denver.

@pmsquared - did you ever interview at Google? Thought I've seen your name on other Google sales threads.

Yep. I’ve interviewed multiple teams at Google in past and have many friends there ranging from IC to Senior Leaders. All have said - company is amazing beats Amazon and MS, but sales is terrible vs AWS and Azure. No sense of direction and unobtainable quotas. I’ve basically been told AWS > Azure > GCP; in terms of sales orgs from friends who have worked at two or all three in the last 1-3 years.

Why is cloud pay so low compared to SWE?

AWS Wins!!!! It depends on whether quota is met. It’s a Commission variable. From what I’ve seen on Blind it’s barely ever reached. I think the rough avg I saw was above 60%. But if you consider the AWS role title it’s way higher than Google. It’s not a bad idea to branch out towards GCP since you’re an expert already. But if you do go towards AWS you can always go to Google later and get a better offer with your current title and level at AWS.

Also, I would say AWS is a better stock bet especially if there is a stock split soon.... you never know though.

SA role is seen as a better role than TAM inside AWS and keep in mind, you will get paged as a TAM, guaranteed.

Sr. TAM is a very operations focused role that has a lot of busy work and you are expected to be oncall. See if G will match the AWS offer.

I believe that Google GSUs for that size grant are paid out quarterly. I don’t know how the sales bonus works, but for non-sales roles, the bonus is dependent on job performance. The bonus target for those roles assumes that you “meet expectations.”
