In Florida you can buy a mansion with that cash. Bellevue a cottage.

I want to work on tech jobs on a part-time basis
Seems like a no-brainer to me. The current one outdoes the other in every aspect.

Florida is very boring and weather is worse than Seattle believe it or not. The weather
Is humid all the time which makes people lazy and dull. Outdoor activities are hard as sunshine is too strong and it is too hot. If sky is clear, it is too hot to go out. When the ski is cloudy, it is too humid to go out.

Florida doesn’t have any Asian flavors at all if that matters to you. You can hardly find a Japanese restaurant and even if you do, it won’t taste good. Most of food is southern style with greasy food. Even the McDonald tastes worse there because people put 3x mayo and other sauce.

Good thing is if you have kids, you can go to beach or them parks all the time. Driving is breeze compared to Seattle area but watch out you will fall asleep. Some neighbors are very dangerous and scary. You gotta exit to right neighborhood even for gas. Safety is the biggest difference compared to here.

My Indian colleagues complained he got yelled sometimes by drive by racists (not necessarily white people). As an Asian, I experienced minor incidents and felt some folks treat me like I am a kid (perhaps they really thought I was given their lack of encounter with Asians). Occasional unpleasant such encounters which I never experienced here in Seattle. Funny thing is they even get surprised when I walk by them because their brain didn’t recognize me. I think they are not used to be aware of people with different physicals and skin color. It wasn’t intentional by them. Just brain doesn’t seem recognizing as quickly as they do for white black and latinos.

People are much more friendly and nice there but the spectrum is wide. There are many angry people as well (different from passive aggressive people in this area). But kind people are very well educated with great empathy and they go extra miles to help others. Here in Seattle area, everyone is busy doing work for long hours (compared to Florida Microsoft work is considered draconian work environment), but in Florida you can work for half of here. People focus more on life like everyday encounters with each other, social status, dress well, enjoy hobby(mostly athletic) and watch sports all the time.

Considering the weather and comparatively low cost of living, you should go for the sunshine state 😌
Plus Seattle is way more dull compared to Florida !!

Never heard Florida mentioned when talking about tech. Be where the action is unless you don't care about career as much as relaxing life

Expedia sounds better for your resume. You can save a few bucks in Florida but personally I would not do it, unless you have personal reasons to be in Florida or love the startup

I think you should take into consideration your long term personal and professional goals as well in making this decision.

Dont count on profit units. 5 years is a long time. You could leave, company, could go bust, you can be laid off(sorry just a possibility) etc. Instead go for a traditional vesting model.

If the start up fails after a year, what kind of options would you have in South Florida, or would you be willing to relocate again?

Living in Florida sounds awesome, and I’ve heard terrible things about Expedia. TC would be the only thing I’d worry about for the 2nd offer.

For career and experience then the first. For living expense and quality of life the second option

Yes. Cost of living makes the difference but will it make the difference of 10K? I am not sure if it is true that when u go for a job from Seattle to Florida your base goes down
