So here is what I don't understand. Scenario: Recruiter reaches out to me. Talks to me about a good match for a job. Sets up a phone interview. Then the interviewer asks me why do I want to work for X company? Am I supposed to feign enthusiasm? Am I expected to make up stuff? Why is this ever a valid question? One of the objective of interviewing is for me to figure out if company X is worth my time.... It's like getting a match on tinder and your date msgs, "why do you want to marry me?" Why is this a thing?
Because "Company X" is an awesome name...obviously!
Here’s the perfect response in this scenario. Great question. I was hoping you could answer that question for me. Why would I want to work for you?
😂
“Drink & Blind” shall be banned
"I really believe in the mission" next question.
It’s more like getting a match on tinder and your date msgs, “so what made you swipe right on me?”
You didn't have to agree to the interview. What pushed you to even show up?
Don't know yet, I am looking to find out. What about you? Why are you working here?
The interviewer and the recruiter have different objectives. Interviewer’s goal is to hire someone who is competent to do the job and is excited to do it (they care about retention). Recruiter’s goal is to find a pool of such people and make them available for interview. So recruiter only cares about getting you in and will say good things to get you motivated. Interviewer has a day job, beside interviewing, and wants to ensure you are interested so not to waste time on you otherwise and move to the next person in the pool. If you are not sure about the role or the company, you should use your conversation with recruiter to gather info to get motivated.
It's a song and dance. Just do it.
