Just 1 technical screen and people getting hired
Because they are out of people to hire and all the folks they fired don’t want to return there.
Well lot of maintenance work is my guess!!! Thats what (a lot of) companies in India do. Hire a college grad for meagre salary and then make them work for as long as you can.
Amazon doesn't pay meagre though, we pay at about the 80th percentile. Lowest among the FANG but higher than Microsoft and certainly higher than the industry median. So we should be holding out for the best grads and not just taking anyone.
Yeah I didn't imply Amazon pays less, I just shared an analogy for keeping hire bar lower at entry level. Probably hiring more entry level grads costs them less.
Amazon - hire anyone with a pulse, fire if not performing. Google -filter out potential non-performers with LC hard problems. Either hiring philosophy makes sense and is better than hiring someones buddies who will coast forever.
But many of such low caliber folks are forming alliances and staying. They’re also making life difficult for some high caliber employees.
Similarly Google hires lots of folks who crammed LC problems, but aren’t that great or can’t work in a team. No system is perfect.
Duct taping their dev head count (just like duck taping their software).

Lol at the comments. They’re probably just running out of candidates and lowering standards. Predictable, really. The hiring process is broken everywhere.
Quick hire, quick fire. Amazon has operated like this for years.
Not able to fire lots of low performers. Some are not only surviving but also getting promoted. They are doing politics inside Amazon.
SDE1,2s are disposable, just like toilet paper.
The good kind (charmin)or bad kind (walmart)of toilet paper 🧻 ?
They just have a different hiring model. Your first year at Amazon is basically a long interview. There is a reason they fire a lot of people.
Cuz passing sde1 is the real screen. Also why you hardly get any vesting for first 2 years. No real reward or respect until sde2 which by no coincidence usually happen right at year 2 or a little before
Lol what really
Yes not kidding! 1 aptitude + 1 coding challenge + 1 technical screen
Aptitude. Lol.
