Why is Disney pay so low when they are doing so well?

Why does Disney pay so horribly when they are also so successful? Who takes all the profit? https://finance.yahoo.com/news/disney-is-utterly-dominating-the-2019-box-office-194544087.html

And they hire only contractors for SWE jobs as well.

Amazon UKBV06 Jul 29, 2019

No true, I interviewed for SWE with them before. They have full cooperate employees. This was for Disney Digital/Interactive in Glendale

SeatGeek RzHY00 Jul 31, 2019

I sure got a lot of job spam for their streaming service, so Idk about that

Uber MrMephist0 Jul 29, 2019

They have the same mentality as every sector of entertainment: pay low because everyone dreams of working there and so many people stay for years and years especially in Florida.

Disney LP182 Jul 30, 2019

^ this. Truth

Atos ckg1208 Aug 21, 2019

Yup truth!

Oath LxSY42 Jul 29, 2019

Owning most of the competitors also helps means labor doesn't have as many places to go for better pay in the same industry.

Uber MrMephist0 Jul 29, 2019

For a company with the amount of money and success they have you wouldnโ€™t believe how risk averse they are. Theyโ€™ll pay top dollar for sure bets like Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar but do very little innovation on their own...theme parks excluded.

Even in theme parks, their design agency is very innovative in attraction design, but the actual theme park business is industrialized for scale. Very inflexible and risk averse.

Salaries are based on demand and supply of labour. They can afford to pay low because many people are willing to work for them. Same reason that Google can afford to lowball developers. Also, shareholders have first right to company profits, not employees.

Disney mav.rick Jul 30, 2019

Yeah they do hire SWEโ€™s internally too but super lowball then

Microsoft ๐Ÿ‚๐ŸŒฎ๐Ÿบ# Jul 30, 2019

I blame this guy

Spotify smcduck Jul 30, 2019

So much hate

Pandora fhkh848hnk Jul 30, 2019

The executives take it all. As always. Their greed is insatiable.

Hulu a-list Jul 30, 2019

Executive pay is set by the Board of Directors in consultation with the shareholders. CEOs are paid in fixed base and a lot of stock. The way CEOs can โ€œpay themselvesโ€ is to make the company more valuable and thus raise the stock price. Their incentives are aligned with the shareholders.

Spotify qazwsxedcv Jul 30, 2019

Because they can and because they already outsource a lot of their operation to reduce costs.

Disney m.j.gonz Jul 30, 2019

I currently work in the California Resort and from my experience the workers are paid fairly well, especially when 90% of the labor is entry level/no experience. On top of only two departments not being unionized who fight for higher wages ever time a contract expires.

Verizon Media daddy ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Jul 30, 2019

I think he meant the real Disney employees, like the ones that work in tech and are legit.

Hulu RandysBoss Jul 31, 2019

Like real legit tech workers at Verizon Media?

Pandora kitkat112 Jul 30, 2019

This sounds like a fairly naieve question. Who do you think takes all the profit? Check exec TC. Board of directors. Investors. Thats capitalism baby!
