How many of us exist and how many are interested in this?
Can discuss career, emotional health, Relationship issues, pms and menstruation, food, pets, solo travel, best weed, and everything else 😇

I just feel starved of good female company.

I think we should keep discussion here in the open. Hear me out.

I know that the open Women in Tech forum can be toxic af, because of people who come here to troll threads, but Blind is sorely lacking in women’s voices and perspectives, and I think that’s to the detriment of actual women looking for support. I know that when I first came here (for salary transparency info) and saw all the misogynistic bullshit in other threads I was like, “Holy shit, is this what tech has become?” But I know there are good and decent people out there who just may not be heard. And I think they should be heard.

Also there’s nothing keeping the shitstorm here from following us into a group chat. This is an anonymous app after all.

This. Keeping issues that affect you hidden away in all women circles only hurts. Speak up about them openly, everyone needs to know. There’s a lot more supportive voices than blind would lead you to believe

      OP
I don't think it's possible to keep anything to a woman's only circle because it's anonymous. Chat is for real time communication, general chitchat and making friends - but I don't know how creation of a public chat works on Blind though.

Half of the things on this list I don't want to discuss at all, the other half - isn't it more fun to have everyone participating?
Why filter potential great thoughts about solo travel, food, career, etc. just by the gender factor?

I guess the intent is to understand solely from one point of view before opening up for ridicule that most men seem to be doing to women on blind

Well, to be fair, they too get a lot of that ridicule 🙂

Would be better than this topic which is like "women in tech from the perspective of men with dubious motives"

In my experience women in tech is not really inclusive of woc so I rather hangout in the general population rather than believe in the false sisterhood

I want to be inclusive of WOC. I'm pro sisterhood of the real type. Let me know if you want to hang out.

That’s a dangerous precedent. They may end up on the same cycle, wreak havoc on our plumbing.

I vote for slack. Didn't think it was worth a paid group on Blind with shitty UI.

Hey ladies did any of you experience impostor syndrome when joining your companies? If so how did you cope. I was in a team where I did sometimes here coworkers loudly making fun of new hires' code when reviewing it, saying things like "she got the job at Dropbox because she's just good at interviewing...", And one of them thought I had an easy in because I got in through a diversity recruiter...How commonplace is this stuff? I know employers are doing a lot to help engineers from under represented backgrounds feel welcome. But, they can't control what the employees do/say

This is incredibly annoying behavior. What is the point of recruiting women for technical roles if the culture isn’t suitable for them?

    • Microsoft Arc345
Ya I was really surprised and thought they'd be more mature then that.
